About me

Christopher Graham

Professional Work

I have been working in English language teaching all my working life as a teacher, director of studies and corporate courses manager. Subsequent to this, I was the founder and then managing director of English Worldwide, an ELT consultancy running projects across the globe. Amongst these projects was the nine-year ELT curriculum renewal process in the Sultanate of Oman, and the ownership and management of private language schools in the the Former Sovet Union..

Since the sale of English Worldwide in 1998, I have worked as a freelance ELT teacher educator, consultant and writer. In total I have worked in over 30 countries. You will find more about my recent projects on this website. I have a wide range of interests within ELT and these include the integration of 21st century skills into content and delivery, the interface between ELT and sustainability, supporting teaching and learning in challenging locations, the training and support of teacher educators and looking beyond the ELT ‘bubble’ for transferable practices and processes.

I am a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts (FRSA) and a member of the Society of Authors.

Volunteering Work

In 2019, I was one of the founder members of the ELT Footprint movement, that strives to help the ELT community understand its responsibilities and opportunities in the climate emergency. In 2020, ELT Footprint was a winner of a British Council ELTons award. I continue my sustainability work with Green Action ELT.

I will be the President and Chair of Trustees of IATEFL from 2025-2027 after being elected by the membership. IATEFL is one of the largest associations of English Language teachers in the world.

I am also on the board of EVE - Equal Voices in ELT, an organisation that mentors female ELT professionals who wish to become conference presenters. The mentoring programme is run in collaboration with teachers associations around the world. EVE won an ELTons outstanding achievement award in 2024.
